Featured report

Medway is working towards becoming a Marmot Place — a long‑term commitment to creating a fairer, healthier future for everyone.
To understand where inequalities exist and how they affect people’s daily lives, Medway Council invited organisations across the system to share any engagement, insight or research they had gathered over the last five years.

The Marmot Principles

The Marmot Principles

The Marmot Principles highlight the key social factors that influence health and wellbeing, such as early life experiences, education, employment, living conditions, and community environments. They emphasise that health inequalities are shaped by the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, and that addressing these wider determinants is essential to improving outcomes.

Marmot Places look to improve the health of their communities following the 8 principles. The 8 principles are grounded in over 4 decades of research from Professor Sir Michael Marmot.

Below, you can use the buttons to explore all of our reports and insights, organised by each Marmot Principle, to see what we are hearing from local communities.
