The Building Blocks of Life: Ashford

9 April 2026

We spoke to 40 people living in Ashford to understand how their environment affects their health and wellbeing. Residents told us what they value in their area, what worries them, and what would help them live healthier lives. This work forms part of our Building Blocks of Life series exploring how Kent and Medway’s neighbourhoods shape everyday experiences. The findings will be shared with local services to help improve life for people across Kent and Medway. This page highlights what we heard.

People shared a wide range of views about living in Ashford. Many raised concerns about crime and safety, particularly at night. People aged over 55 spoke about challenges with public transport and traffic, and feedback about the town centre was largely negative, with 87% of those mentioning it sharing concerns.

Residents also told us that outdoor spaces and community groups have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing.
